Would like to share some things out of Philippians.
Hopefully you will take the time to read the entire book.
Just going to pull out some of the verses the Holy Spirit brought to my attention over the years as i have read this book.
So here we go.
Philippians 1:6
He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
{{ This is good to remember when life seems a bit overwhelming, God is faithful and will work it all out and perfect those who are His, so we will be ready when Christ Jesus comes in the clouds for us. }}
Philippians 1:9-11
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-21
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:9-27
Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ,
Philippians 2:3-5
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
{{ “with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves”
This changed my life and the lives of those who worked for me. When i realized i was not of any more value than any one ells, everything changed.
Reminds me of in Luke 18 where Jesus told the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector.
Luke 19:9-14
“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself:
‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’
But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying,
‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’
I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
The Pharisee was prideful; thanking God he is not like other people and of his accomplishments how he fast twice a week, how he pays tithes no all he gets.
But the tax collector stood back, knowing he was a sinner and had fallen short of Gods commandments would not even lift his eyes to heaven, beating his breast, saying,
‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’,
the tax collector went home justified and the Pharisee went home still prideful.
And Jesus said “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.” }}
Philippians 2:14
Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world.
{{ another one that has stuck with me over the years;
Do all things without grumbling or disputing
I was on my way to hell, Christ got my attention and i asked Him in to my heart and life,
He was willing to hang on the cross for me so what do i have to complain about, grumbling or arguing about things is not acceptable for me.
He gave His all for me so i follow Him without complaining. Living s life of gratitude. }}
Philippians 3:2-3
Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision; for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,
Philippians 3:18-21
For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ,
whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
{{ the true circumcision is the circumcision that takes place in the heart when we surrender our will to be conformed to the will of the Lord Jesus Christ, a cutting away of earthly things. For this world is not our home, our home is with our Lord Jesus Christ. In this stand firm in the Lord. }}
Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
Let your gentle spirit be known to all men.
The Lord is near.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
{{ Rejoice in the Lord always. No matter the circumstances you may find yourself in for what the Lord Jesus has done for you should always rejoice in Him.
We are told over and over by our Lord Jesus to ask in His name;
John 14:12--14
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”
As believers in and followers of our Lord Jesus we have no reason to be anxious for anything but His return for us.
As for our daily lives we have no excuse for being anxious, if our trust and faith are set in Him.
For our Lord has told us if we are His and He is our Lord all we need do is ask in faith, asking in His name it will be added unto us.
Faith in our Lord Christ Jesus is all we need.
That does not mean if you want a new car if you ask for it you will receive it. What the Lord speaks of throughout His word is our needs food and clothing (read Matthew 5,6 and 7 and our spiritual growth, we are told to ask for wisdom, understanding and knowledge, we are directed to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us, we are told to ask when we are speaking to others for the words to say that will open the door for the Holy Spirit to draw them to the Lord.
And we are also told to ask in faith;
Mat 21:21-22
And Jesus answered and said to them,
“Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain,
Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will happen.
And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
James 1:6-8
But he must ask in faith without any doubting,
for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea,
driven and tossed by the wind.
For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
((( if you doubt GOD, the Lord Jesus Christ, why bother asking for anything of Him except to be forgiven. )))
In Philippians 4:11-13 we are told three significate things that we should consider;
1. “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
2. “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.”
3. “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
The Lord is faithful to all He has spoken.
Now we need to be faithful to Him and His words.
the Lord Christ Jesus is my provider but even more than that He is my provision, for other than Him i have no needs, being content with what He has provided i live in peace without anxiety, wants or needs.
Knowing that He who began a good work in me, will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Have a blessed day trusting in the Lord Christ Jesus.
