Matthew 22:36-40
Jesus was asked;
Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?
Jesus said to him;

You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind.
This is the first and the greatest commandment.
And the second is like it,
You are to love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two commandments hangs the whole Law and the Prophets.

This is also said in Matthew 22: 36-40 and referred to in Mark 12:30-31

Matthew 5:16-20
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven.
Don’t think that I have come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy them, but to fulfill them.
For truly I say to you, till heaven and earth perish, not one jot or one tittle of the Law shall escape, not until all things are fulfilled.

Therefore whoever will break even one of these least commandments, and others also to break them, he will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever will observe and teach them, they will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For I say to you, except your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

From what i have come to understand the Scribes and Pharisees keep and held to the commandments but did not have love one for another and that we can surpass their righteousness by living a life built on a foundation of love with Christ as the cornerstone. In John 15: 9 Jesus tells us how it works:

       As the father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue in that my love. If you will keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. For no greater love than this hath any man, as when a man gives his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do as I tell you, and keep My commandments.

Jesus does what the Father has told Him to do, and we are to do as Christ Jesus tells us to do!
Now at this point we need to ask ourselves,
do we truly love Christ,
or do we love self?
How to tell? If you put yourself, your wants, your desires before any other, love is not fulfilled in your life, and the degree of that self-worth is a great gauge as to how much you truly love or don’t love Christ.
For if you are putting yourself before others you cannot fulfill what Jesus tells us is The Greatest Commandment.
And that is to;
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind.
This is the first and the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You are to love your neighbor as yourself.

Conclusion;
   We are to keep the Lords commandments
  1. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind
  2. We are to love our fellow man as our self’s
  3. You are to have no other gods before Me
  4. You are not to make any idols nor worship then
  5. You are not to take the name of the Lord your God in vain
  6. You are to remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy
  7. You are to honor your father and mother
  8. you are not to commit murder
  9. you are not to commit adultery
  10. you are not steal
  11. you are not to bear false witness
  12. you are not to covet your neighbor or anything he may poses
if you follow the a simple guide-line (1-12), and your life is in Christ and His love is in you, but if you won’t allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into walking in God’s love you will be without true love and without love you are no better than the scribes and Pharisees! For deeds without love are done for selfish gain. i may not kill my neighbor with a knife or gun, but if i have heat in my heart towards him, have i done any better, if i use all my positions and have my friends over for a big dinner but leave the one in need setting out on the corner starving, have i truly done a good thing, do i truly have compaction? Do I really understand love? The answer would be No.
